One of my favorite cartoons growing up was The Adventures of Jonny Quest. It was about a boy who accompanied his scientific genius father on extraordinary adventures. Along for the ride were brawny Roger Bannon, Jonny’s friend Hadji and dog, Bandit. Together they used science and muscle power to solve mysteries and stop evil.
That reminds me of Jesus.
What if we lived our lives as if we were on a spiritual, Jonny Quest adventure? Together. As a team.
- You and I would be Jonny.
- Abba Father would be Dad.
- Bannon, the bodyguard, would be Jesus.
- Mystical Hadji would be the Holy Spirit.
Plus Bandit. Because dogs are good to have on any adventure!
Together we would team up to thwart evil and solve the mysteries of our spiritual life.
In fact, as we quest through this world, we should always do so as part of God’s team; always seeking His leading; always following His guidance; always joining Him to fight evil.
And always seeing God’s plan as the extraordinary adventure it is.
Whatever our quest, wherever God leads us, let us embark upon God’s extraordinary adventure with excited expectation.
Here’s a prayer I have posted in the place of highest honor in our house (the fridge). I read it daily. Pray with me.
PRAYER: Dear God, please turn my fear into excited expectation for what you have planned. Amen.

Yes, I have to constantly remind myself to turn everything over to Him. He has a wonderful plan in store for each one of us, and that's something to be excited about every single day!!

Great post, Carol! We (my brothers and I) used to watch Jonny Quest all the time too. Excellent analogy for our adventures with God.
This whole indie writing thing is my new adventure with God. My first career was as a newspaper reporter, so I'm not new to writing, but launching out as a freelancer and trying to get my novels into publication is something I haven't done before. Funny that it took losing my day job to get me going, but God uses everything and works it together for good. :)

This is great because this is what I've been going through the past few days. Turning my fear of the unknown into excited expectation. Love it. Also, I've heard of Jonny Quest but have never seen it. Creative way of turning the team into God's team!

Johnny Quest...Wow, isn't that a blast from the past? What a fun post. I never watched it and neither did my kids, but it sounds like they'd have enjoyed it. You are indeed correct; as Christians we begin a quest every morning when we get out of bed. That thought conjured up a knight in armor...the armor of God that Paul described. ;o) Peace and Blessings

Carol I love that prayer..gotta remember it-We are on the same page it seems. I have learned to question any fear that stops me from doing something. I find that it's my own silly reservations that get in the way and steal the joy I was to have.

Very cool, Carol! I know every Jonny Quest episode by heart--the classic one, anyway. Didn't like the upgraded version. But Jonny was a huge hero of mine since my early teen years.

Carol, what fun! Grabbed a cup of hot tea, sat down (ahhhh!)and read your words today. What a beautiful little respite in the midst of busy! :) I haven't thought about Johnny Quest in years...brought a few fond tears as my brother (now dancing on streets of gold) loved that show and I hadn't remembered till just now. It was fun to think back to when he was a tow-headed, headstrong young boy on a seemingly endless series of quests just like Johnny. Love the way you tied the characters to us and the Trinity (plus a furry, four-legged, tail-wagging pup!). Bless you, Carol!

I love it! Jonny Quest was my brother's favorite cartoon so I saw every episode. (I admit to liking Bandit anyway.) Thanks for bringing it back to mind.

That's amazing, the way you connected each member of the cast with a member of the Trinity! And all the more so because I used to have a recurring dream of the same thing--Dad was God, Bannon was Jesus, Hadji was the Holy Spirit, all of that. Only, in my version, Bandit was always Hezekiah. (Or maybe it was Mephibosheth. I could never tell those two apart. . . .)
Anyway, Jonny Quest did indeed rock. It was the best of the Hanna-Barbera bunch. We used to play it during recess in elementary school (this time I'm being serious). When you cast our lives in that light--as God sending us on a mystery adventure--it sort of ups the excitement of the whole picture. Perspective is everything. . . .
