GIVE UNTO CAESAR

<insert sounds of creepy organ music here>

Tomorrow is tax day. The day no one can avoid. Because the two things in this world you can count on are death and taxes.

Jesus pointed out that eternal truth when he said: "Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s." Mark 12:16-18

So tomorrow we give what is due to our 21st century Caesar; aka the Internal Revenue Service. From there it will be dolled out to the myriad of governmental agencies we have empowered.

What remains is for us to give to God what is God’s. Fortunately, everything already belongs to God. Including us. For those of us who follow Christ, that means when that other unavoidable event occurs—death—we get to spend eternity in paradise. It’s unavoidable. And it’s good! We give back to God the things that are God’s—us.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, we recognize that everything in this world belongs to you. We are especially grateful that we belong to you; that you call us your children because of Jesus. Amen.

WHAT ABOUT YOU? Is tax day especially painful for you?

Tax day... not really that painful to me, but it sure does seem like we give a lot to Uncle Sam, right?

I still like the thought of giving to God first since it's all his anyway... taxes are a given and taken out before we have our say, so whenever I receive that paycheck I always pay God first!

Happy Tax Day Carol :-)

@ Chris - yes, giving God His portion first is only proper; even if we can't give it to Him until after Uncle Same get his.

LOL Love the creepy organ music part! I think we don't understand how important it is to give to God...and I don't mean giving Him a tip like we do the waitress!

@ Lynn - Right--God loves a cheerful, sacrificial giver and it can't be like tipping since it's already His.

For me, it is always a relief to have the task of the taxes completed and filed for another year. I don't think it is especially painful because I don't think of that money as mine in the first place. I know there is a spiritual application there but instead I want to congratulation you on the over 10000 blessings you have shared!
